Why magnets are not a gimmick
Wireless power transfers through a coil pair, and the efficiency of that transfer falls off quickly when the coils are off-centre. A magnetic ring removes the guesswork: the phone snaps into the designed position every time, so the charger runs at its rated rate instead of a fraction of it, and it runs cooler because less energy is being wasted as heat.
Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible designs
Qi2 is the standardised magnetic profile that recent phones are built to, with 15W as the practical ceiling for the phone pad. MagSafe-compatible products use the same magnetic geometry. Either way, the mechanical design — magnet grade, pole arrangement, stand angle — is what you are really buying, and it is worth verifying on a sample.
Car mounts, desk stands and travel shapes
Car mounts need a vent or dashboard fixing that survives vibration and summer heat. Desk stands need an angle that keeps the phone readable and a base heavy enough not to slide. Travel versions fold flat and take a single cable. All three use the same charging module, so a brand can launch a family rather than a single SKU.
Heat is the limit you cannot market away
Every phone protects itself by reducing charge current when it gets warm. A charger that keeps the coil cool — through an aluminium backplate, a ventilated pedestal or a larger thermal mass — visibly outperforms a thin plastic puck in side-by-side testing. That is the difference customers notice, and it shows up in reviews.
OEM and certification
Moulded or printed logo, colour, finish, cable, case and retail carton are editable from 200 pcs per model. Qi2 certification documents and the relevant EMC and safety reports are supplied by market, and retail packaging can be re-drawn for your channel.
Certification and testing
Magnetic charging products carry a Qi or Qi2 compliance document plus the EMC and safety reports that come with any switching supply. Reports are supplied by market. Each production batch is checked for delivered power at the pad, case temperature after an hour, magnet pull force and alignment tolerance, and for car mounts the vibration and heat tests that a dashboard will apply anyway. Because the electrical platform is shared across shapes, a new stand or mount can usually reuse the same reports.
Frequently asked questions
- Will it work with a non-magnetic phone? Yes, if the case carries a magnetic ring or the pad accepts free placement.
- Does it charge through a case? Through cases up to about 3mm; metal plates and thick wallets block it.
- Is a magnetic stand worth the extra cost? For daily use, yes — consistent alignment keeps the charge rate stable.
